NC Junior Historian Convention

Old Gilliam Park We had a great year with Junior Historians. This year we broke into three separate clubs – Grade 4 & 5 (Club A), Grade 6-8 (Club B) and Grade 9-12 (Club C). We went on field trips to Carver’s Creek and Ed Patterson’s houses. We had a speaker on the Old Gilliam Mill Park. We had a presentation on a Moravian Christmas. One meeting we played games to review NC History. The younger group participated in the new contest of  History in Action by having a clean-up day at Old Gilliam Mill. Group B had several clean-up days at Carver’s Creek. We had a huge participation in the contest this year and learned how to do an Annotated Bibliography.  I was so proud of all the work the kids did this year.

We more than doubled the amount of students we took to convention this year. The kids had a good time at the workshops and learned a lot. They attended From Dirt to Dish, Bound for Carolina: Scots-Irish Traditions,  and How Iron Man 3 Came to North Carolina. But the kids had the most fun at the awards ceremony. We had A LOT of winners this year.
